The proposed park is located in a growing area that is densely populated with families who would make good use of a park, and is central to many new areas under development. The current site plan includes a proposed elementary school on the south side of Hilltop Needmore Road (here referred to as the Hilltop Elementary School) This offers a rich opportunity for partnership between the South Wake Park and the Wake County School System. Such a partnership could augment the educational experiences of our youth in ways that are possible only when direct access to the open spaces provided by parks, greenways and nature preserves is readily available. Some of the potential educational facilities were identified earlier, and through joint work with the school system could be prioritized and extended as appropriate to fulfill the educational vision.
In addition to facilities provided directly by South Wake Park, our youth could have access to the nature preserves of the greenway system via the Middle Creek greenway corridor, as discussed earlier, and eventually to Banks Road Elementary School and Park, as well as other schools.
